We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: fashion rules are meant to be broken! As September rolls around we’re particularly excited to throw out the antiquated “no white after Labor Day” fashion law. Why has it been a rule anyway?
We’re so excited to launch our new monthly series called “Swapper of the Month.” Each post will feature different rockstar swapper and sustainable fashion guru! Naturally, we’re starting with the one and only Karen Housel. As a former EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) employee, and currently an EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) specialist at Universal Studios, it’s safe to say that Karen has her facts straight about mother earth. In addition, she is the brains behind the popular sustainable fashion blog, Sustainable Daisy, so she understands the importance of style as well. We’re more than grateful to have Karen as a supporter of Swap Society!
Nicole Robertson is one half of the dynamic duo behind Swap Society. She and her husband Edward have worked tirelessly the past year and a half to bring Swap Society goodness to all of you! This week I chatted with Nicole about her personal style journey, how she came to love clothing swaps, and what is Swap Society is all about.
Independence Day is just around the corner and you know what that means, right? It’s time to plan your killer Fourth of July outfit! There tends to be two different types of celebrators; the ones that go all out, and the ones that roll their eyes. I seem to fall closer to the “all out” camp. I love getting dressed up, having a theme to work around, and spending time with friends in family. Oh, and I love food. However, the abundance of plastic accessories purchased around the Fourth of July often makes me want to boycott the entire thing. Let’s find a happy medium and discover a way to have a fun and conscious holiday. Below are festive pieces that can be worn with other eligible swaps or garments in your own closet. Who needs to go to the store anymore?
On April 28th, the second-to-last day of Fashion Revolution Week, the Swap Society team got together with friends and fashion lovers alike! We gathered at Open Mind Art Space in LA to swap clothes, sip mimosas, and grab goodies from Made by DWC and Aveda Azure Salon. It was a 4 hour event full of joy and discovery, especially with the help of Native Styling. Although there is so much to be excited about, we must say that diverting textile waste from being discarded, and celebrating friendships (old and new) were the highlights.
