This week is Fashion Revolution Week; a call to action started a few years ago by Fashion Revolution. Based in the UK, the nonprofit aims to spur fashion activism and make waves within the current fashion industry. Through social media campaigns, online guides, and awesome collaborations, Fashion Revolution has helped to create a movement.
It’s almost Earth Day! This Sunday people all around the country will be celebrating mother earth and doing their part to promote green-living practices. We at Swap Society, would like to focus on how fashion can play a role in protecting our earth. As you may know from previous posts, the fashion industry is one of the top five industries polluting our earth. We want to give you a few steps on how to be a part of the effort to change that! It can seem daunting to take on such a huge task, but every little bit counts. By swapping, mending, and caring for clothes properly you can help make this world a little greener.
Although clothing swaps have been on the rise recently, the pastime of trading clothes goes far back in history. Clothing swaps, swap meets and flea markets have long been affordable ways for those without means to get themselves a new wardrobe. However, current culture has eaten up secondhand clothing as if it was the latest runway fashion. Fashion is changing and so is the way we acquire our clothes!
Spring is finally here! Whether you're anxiously waiting for the snow to thaw, or even if you live in an always-sunny climate, it’s still a great reason to reassess. Spring has long been associated with a good closet clean out–we’ve had enough time since the holidays and it’s not yet too hot to function. These next few months are the perfect opportunity to comb through your wardrobe and let go of things that, as Marie Kondo would say, “don’t bring you joy.”
